Capital Campaign Kick Off A Success
Health By Choice Education and Research, Inc. kicked off its Capital Campaign on Saturday, October 10, 2009, in New Enterprise.  Nearly 100 people attended the event, which was held in a large tent on the grounds of Health By Choice health food store and clinic on Lafayette Road.  While most of the attendees were from the local surrounding area, representatives from Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina were also in attendance.

Ella McElwee, founder and vice-president of Health By Choice Education and Research emceed the fundraiser.  Prominent local businessman and Health By Choice Education and Research board member Delmar Zeisloft gave the invocation.  Lynn Baney, well-known professional artist and the owner of the Brownstone Art Gallery in Roaring Spring, donated a large painting to the organization of a beautiful tree that will be used to recognize individuals who donate to the project.

Speakers for the kickoff included Dr. Ralph Miranda, an M.D. from Greensburg, Pennsylvania and a member of the Health By Choice Education and Research board of directors and Mr. Jerry Brunetti, founder of Agri-Dynamics in Martins Creek, Pennsylvania.  Dr. Miranda discussed the timely topic “Health Care – If It’s Broke, We Can Fix It.”  Mr. Brunetti spoke on “Food as Medicine, Farm as Farmacy.”  Weston A. Price Foundation-Northern Bedford County Chapter members served a delicious homegrown organic lunch between speakers.

Ella McElwee surprised attendees with her announcement that she was donating a large piece of her personal property upon which the center can be built.  Ms. McElwee is director of Health By Choice on Lafayette Road in New Enterprise and Health By Choice East at Weaver’s Natural Foods in Manheim.

Dr. Tom Heath, president and chairman of research for Health By Choice Education and Research, has noted that the organization’s new health center “will enable us to more effectively engage in the type of research that promotes real health care.”  Dr. Heath is a chiropractor in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
